The short version: Got sent to the principal’s office in third grade for drawing in class. Abandoned art until college. Majored in architecture, then took a year off to pursue photography. Went to Pratt in the mid seventies. Worked at AT&T in the graphics dept. for 3 years. Got bored and wanted to draw more, so I started freelancing in the mid-eighties even though I had no clients. But I was young & fearless. Painted traditionally, but moved to Mac pretty much the day Photoshop was introduced. Nowadays it’s pretty much a mashup of painting and digital, or sometimes straight digital. Have worked with lots of great clients over the years... including book publishers, magazines, newspapers, corporations, theater and opera companies, ad agencies... you name it. Have won awards from just about every major peer group in the business, like the Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts magazine and 3x3, including silvers and golds. [Not bragging, just sayin’] Have had gallery shows, am a member of illustration and design groups like the Illustrators Club of Washington and serve on its board of directors. Have been a juror at the Society of Illustrators, talked to student groups, and do pro-bono work for causes I believe in.
